World Cup over for Namibia center La Roux Malan

New England Free Jacks center Le Roux Malan is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious injury at the World Cup in France. The 24-year-old suffered a fracture and dislocation of his ankle in the first half of Namibia’s Pool A match against New Zealand on Friday.

Malan has already undergone successful surgery though no timetable for a return to action has been disclosed. He missed the first half of the 2023 Major League Rugby season with a broken thumb before returning to play a starring role with the Free Jacks in their title-winning campaign.

Meanwhile another Namibian’s tournament is in jeopardy. Dallas Jackals loose forward Adriaan Booysen suffered a dislocated shoulder in the same game. Further tests will be needed to determine if Booysen will be able to take part in either of Namibia’s remaining two matches.
