Brazil vs Paraguay Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifier coming in August

São Paulo will play host to a Rugby World Cup 2027 qualifying match on August 18. The largest South American city will stage Brazil vs Paraguay. It is the opening match of a triangular series which also includes Chile.

The three teams are competing for two places in the 2025 South American Championship. Two of Brazil, Paraguay and Chile will join Uruguay in South America’s final phase of Rugby World Cup 2027 qualifying.

Brazil vs Paraguay will be followed by Chile vs Paraguay on September 28 and Chile vs Brazil on October 05. The bottom placed of the three sides will not be eliminated; rather, that side will compete in a play-off against the best performer from the lower category: that being one of Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru and Venezuela. The repechage play-off will be played on October 12.

The 2025 South American Championship will consist of four competitors. Uruguay will be joined by three of Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru and Venezuela. Based on history, and on resent results Chile, Brazil and Paraguay are the most likely to join Los Teros.

Argentina will not be involved in the qualifiers. As a top three side from their pool at Rugby World Cup 2023, Los Pumas qualified directly for Rugby World Cup 2027. Argentina went on to reach the Semi Finals.

Brazil and Paraguay both prepared for the Rugby World Cup 2027 qualifier with home matches in July. Os Tupis were winners over Belgium and very unfortunate not to beat Hong Kong. Paraguay were comfortably beaten by the same two teams. Hong Kong was dominant while Paraguay showed improvement against Belgium.

Os Tupis will have home advantage against Paraguay. The match will take place at the Estádio Nicolau Alayon. Admission to the public is free of charge. The match will be broadcast live.
