Santiago Government Approves High Performance Rugby Center Investment

New investments are coming to Chile. The Santiago government has green-lighted an investment of $1457 million chilean pesos (US$1.5 million) for further advancements of the High Performance Rugby Center in the Chilean capital.

The Governor of the Región Metropolitana, Claudio Orrego was present alongside Rugby Chile Chairman Cristian Rudloff at the announcement. Orrego noted that the investments will benefit Chile’s players as well as the community and will provide an incentive for more children to play rugby.

The new investments will be used for the maintenance and improvements of the stands, as well as the modernization of the lighting at the Chilean national team’s training ground in Mahuida Park.

The improvements in infrastructure will allow for greater comfort for spectators while modernizing the lighting will improve training conditions for athletes. They come following Chile’s debut appearance at the Rugby World Cup in 2023.

Chile’s first time at a Rugby World Cup was a success for Chilean sport and the government is seeking to now invest more moving forward. Chile recently played host to Hong Kong, Belgium and Scotland in July. Los Cóndores played in front of a record crowd against Scotland. July 2025 will see Chile at home against Los Pumas in a test match.
