Americas Rugby Championship for 2026

The Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) is officially back for 2026. It comes with an altered format with four competitors rather than six from the 2016-2019 period. The 2026 ARC will take place in Chile from August 29 to September 06.

Born back in 2012, the ARC was originally a High Performance competition for the Americas. Canada, the USA, Uruguay and Argentina entered non-capped teams. In 2016 it changed to be fully-capped with one exception as the Argentina XV played rather than Los Pumas. Brazil, Canada, Chile, Uruguay and the USA all competed until the final edition in 2019.

The return of the ARC comes with three Rugby World Cup 2027 competitors fielding their next-of-XV‘s and the test team from Paraguay. The four teams are Argentina XV, Chile XV, Paraguay and Uruguay XV. Both Brazil and the USA were initially to be involved with ARN having confirmed that Brazil pulled-out due to financial constraints.

Sudamerica Rugby intends on the ARC returning to be a regular part of the calendar. The governing body is on record in wanting Canada and the USA returning for a ARC before Rugby World Cup 2027.
