Andrés Vilaseca announced his retirement from Los Teros, marking the end of a legendary international career as one of the defining figures in Uruguayan rugby history. The former captain hangs up his boots with 88 caps to his name.
Andrés Vilaseca’s illustrious playing career established him as one of the most resilient and influential center-backs in South American rugby. Making his international debut for Los Teros in 2013, he quickly became a foundational player for the national team, renowned for his physical defense, sharp tactical kicking, and intelligent running lines.
He represented Uruguay at three consecutive Rugby World Cups—2015, 2019, and as captain in 2023—consistently elevating the team’s performance against Tier 1 nations.
On the club circuit, Vilaseca excelled both domestically and internationally, starring for the Peñarol franchise in the Super Rugby Américas, Austin Elite in Major League Rugby and for RC Vannes in France’s Pro D2.
Following his retirement from Los Teros, Vilaseca will remain directly involved with Uruguay Rugby by transitioning into a new coaching role under incoming head coach Guzmán Barreiro. This appointment ensures that the former captain’s vast leadership experience and tactical knowledge will remain within the national setup to guide the next generation of Los Teros.
