Chile’s Diego Escobar made a notable contribution to the European Challenge Cup this past weekend. El Cóndor started at hooker for Racing 92 in their away Quarter Final against Connacht in Ireland. Escobar was a first-half try-scorer in the 43-40 victory.
Racing 92 won the match despite having an early red card and playing with 13-men at one point. Wame Naituvi’s red card came together with a penalty try and, with it, with Connacht held a 21-5 lead. Escobar’s try ame three minutes later. The try was a rampaging lineout to maul score.
As a result of winning in West Ireland, Racing 92 will face Lyon in an all French Top 14 Semi Final. The match will be played in Lyon on Sunday, May 04. The winner will advance to the final to face either Bath or Edinburgh in Cardiff, Wales on Friday, May 23.
