The Estadio Charrúa will be the center of the South American rugby universe on Friday as Peñarol and Los Dogos contest the Super Rugby Americas 2025 Final. It is a battle of the two-time former champions against the defending champions. Los Dogos defeated Los Pampas 37-23 in Buenos Aires to be crowned 2024 Champions.
Peñarol are two-time champions. They defeated Selknam 24-13 in the 2022 final and Los Dogos 23-17 in the 2023 Final. The 2025 Final is a rematch of the 2023 Final and will be at the same venue.
Peñarol defeated Los Dogos in both matches between the sides this season. The Uruguayans won 29-28 in Montevideo and 19-17 in Córdoba.
Peñarol put in a statement win in their Semi Final, downing Selknam 34-18.
Los Dogos defeated Los Pampas 27-21 in Buenos Aires in their Semi Final
Peñarol and Los Dogos both lost their final fixtures of the regular season at home. Peñarol were beaten at home by Los Pampas while Los Dogos fell to Selknam in Córdoba.
The Uruguayans’ wins furthered their strong record against Los Cordobeses. Peñarol have 5 wins from 7 matches. Los Dogos only win over Peñarol was in Montevideo in 2024.
Tomás Bertazza (32) will referee the final. It will be his 8th match of the SRA 2025 season.
The final fakes four days after Felipe Contepomi named Los Pumas’ 32-man roster to face the British & Irish Lions. Contepomi selected 11 SRA players including five Dogos: Boris Wenger, Pedro Delgado, Leonel Oviedo, Agustín Moyano and Faustino Sánchez Valarolo.
