Benetton sign Pumas Fly Half Nicolás Roger

United Rugby Championship (URC) side Benetton Rugby have confirmed the signing of Pumas fly half Nicolás Roger Farías. The 25-year-old joins the Italian side with immediate effect, replacing countryman Tomás Albornoz who made a mid-season transfer from Benetton Rugby to Toulon.

Roger comes from Northern Argentina. He is a product of Santiago Lawn Tennis in Santiago del Estero and is the first Pumas back from the club. The same club produced Pumas back-rowers, past and present, Juan Manuel Leguizamón, Tomás Lezana, Facundo Isa and Bautista Pedemonte.

Benetton Rugby announced the signing of Roger for the ongoing URC season. The contract lasts until June 30, 2026 and Roger has an option of extending for the following two seasons.

Nicolás Roger will be joining his brother in Italy and in the URC. Martín Roger plays for rivals Zebre Parma. Unlike, Nicolás Roger, Martín Roger is uncapped though he certainly is on the Pumas radar. The brothers hold Italian passports with the Martín Roger’s uncapped status making him eligible for Italy via ancestry.

The brothers both went through Argentina’s junior system and played for Los Pumitas. Nicolás Roger competed at the 2019 World Rugby Junior World Championship. They went on to play Super Rugby Americas (SRA) and competed for rival team. Nicolás Roger played for a variety of teams including Peñarol, Selknam, the defunct Colombian side, Los Cafeteros and, most recently, Los Tarucas in SRA 2025.

In moving to Italy, Nicolás Roger is making a return. He previously played for CUS Torino in the 2022-2023 season. His 2025 season saw him forming a notable halves partnership with Simón Benítez Cruz. Both men debuted for Los Pumas in July with Roger playing both matches against England and earring his first test start against Uruguay. Others were preferred for the remaining matches in 2025.

Roger will not be the only Argentine nor the only Puma at Benetton Rugby. The club has Bernardo Bernasconi, Tomás Montilla, Thomas Gallo, Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro, Giuliano Avaca and Ignacio Mendy on its roster.

An additional Argentine is strongly rumored to be joining Benetton Rugby. ARN understands that Roger’s Tarucas teammate, center Tomás Medina is close to being unveiled as a new signing for the Treviso-based URC side.
