Friday night action in Tucumán, Argentina safe the home side getting the job done. Los Tarucas trampled Os Cobras in completing a bonus point win at the Estadio Héctor Cabrera. The home side were in control throughout and led by over 40 points until two late tries saw the Brazilian side recover some dignity.

The match finished at 52-22. Los Tarucas secured the maximum five competition points on offer while Os Cobras were denied a losing bonus point and also a bonus point for scoring four or more tries. It means that Los Tarucas quest to reach a historic place in the play-off’s continues while Os Cobras are bottom of the Super Rugby Americas (SRA) standings.

The first half ended with Los Tarucas holding a 21-3 lead. The first of Los Tarucas’ three tries in the half came in the 8th minute. Scrum-half Matías Sauze switched play blindside with former Puma Matías Orlando providing the final pass for winger Juan Pablo José Pfister to score his first of two tries.

The second and third tries were somewhat similar. Second-rower Ignacio Marquieguez and inside center Bautista Estofan both scored relatively long-range tries. Marquieguez darted through a gap to run in while Estofan bumped off two defenders en route to the try zone.

The final minutes favored Os Cobras. The first of two late tries highlighted the flaw of not having a TMO. Two knock-on’s and a forward pass were missed immediately before Gustavo Gobeti scored. Speedster Rosko Specman scored in the final minute to take the visitors’ tally up to 22 points for the evening.

SRA takes a break next weekend for Easter. Week 7, played on April 10-13, sees Los Tarucas facing Los Capibaras away and Os Cobras having home advantage against Selknam.
