Dogos overpower Cobras in São Paulo

Los Dogos furthered their hold on second spot in Super Rugby Americas (SRA) 2026 with a 48-19 win on Sunday. The Córdoba players enjoyed a good evening as they overpowered Os Cobras in São Paulo.

The visitors converted a 29-7 half-time lead into victory. The result was wrapped-up very early with the bonus point, for scoring for tries, secured on 22 minutes.

Scrum-half Nicolás Viola was the first to score. He darted over with Os Cobras failing to provide basic cover to defend their try zone. Giuliano Avaca missed the conversion and this was a theme of the night as Los Dogos scored eight tries yet only four were converted.

Winger Facundo Pueyrredón scored next but it was not long before Os Cobras hit-back to score their first of three tries. Flanker Matheus Cláudio scored from a pick-and-go to remind Los Dogos that they would not be caving in to a defeat.

Space and numbers factored in for Los Dogos’ third try. After having been stopped inches out, quick ball to the right put an unmarked Mateo Sánchez over for the score. Then came the bonus point try as Agustín Segura bumped off Sérgio Luna following an attacking scrum.

There was more to follow. Los Dogos sublime opening half continued with hooker Juan Ignácio Greising Revol also scoring. He did so from a lineout to maul move.

Os Cobras began the second-half on the front foot. Replacements Endy Willian Pinheiro and Adrio de Melo had a profound impact. The former was stopped close to the line with the latter then going low to score.

Los Dogos hit-back within minutes. A clean-break and an assist from Giuliano Avaca put Agustín de Vertiz  over for a gift try; indeed, Avaca was clear and could have scored himself.

A determined Genaro Fissore added another while replacement Tomás Gómez González scored the final try for the Argentine team. Os Cobras scored a third try with South African Tasriq Mynhardt doing so from a lucky bounce of the rugby ball.

The outcome of the contest sees Los Dogos returning to Córdoba with 5 competition points while Os Cobras missed out on securing any. Both teams have tough assignments next weekend. Los Dogos play host to SRA leaders, Los Pampas while Os Cobras take-on the impressive rookie team, Los Capibaras in São Paulo.
