Pampas Run Over Cobras

Los Pampas were in complete control against Os Cobras on Friday in Buenos Aires. The Buenos Aires side were 59-0 winners against the Brazilians professional rugby franchise. The win came following three consecutive losses with Lois Pampas having fallen against all three Argentine rivals: Los Capibaras, Los Dogos and Los Tarucas.

The contest was decided early; Los Pampas secured the bonus point inside the opening half. The first try came on 11 minutes with second-rower Juan Penoucos crossing for his first of a double. Hooker Francisco Lusarreta also touched down twice in the try zone for Los Pampas during the match.

The fanciest of the first-half tries was scored by Alfonso Latorre. the winger crossed after good work from inside backs Estanislao Renthel, and Alejo Lavayén. It was followed by Francisco Lusarreta scoring his two tries. It meant Los Pampas held a 26-0 lead at half-time.

The second-half scoring opened with second-rower Agustín Cabano Wall slicing through Os Cobras’ defensive line. It came with a deadly accurate asset pass.

Juan Manuel Leguizamón went about unloading his replacements. Slick passing and strong work from the forwards ensured that tries continued to flow. Juan Penoucos scored his second before replacements Marcos Camerlinckx, and Puma Santiago Pernas both scored.

The best second-half try was a solo score from fly half, Estanislao Renthel. He darted his way around defenders and showed excellent pace to score in the right corner.

The win takes Los Pampas up to 45 competition points. This is just one behind league leaders, Los Dogos. The Córdoba side is the only team thus far confirmed for the Semi Finals. The Buenos Aires team has remaining regular season matches against Selknam and Peñarol.

Os Cobras remain bottom with one win thus far in Super Rugby Americas 2026. The São Paulo based side take-on Los Tarucas and Selknam in their remaining matches this season.
