Selknam and ended their Super Rugby Americas (SRA) season with a strong showing at home on Saturday. The Chilean side was too strong for the Brazilian professional rugby team. The 45-14 was what the team needed to advance to the Semi Finals; that was so before Friday’s results with Los Tarucas beating Los Capibaras to claim the fourth, and final, spot in the play-offs.
Selknam had the result secured inside the opening half. A strong start from the Chileans had them leading 28-0 at half-time. Os Cobras had no answers for the Chileans who played all the rugby on attack and were able to shut down the Brazilian side throughout the first-half.
Lucas Berti was the star of the first-half. He scored a double and completed a hat-trick early in the second-half before being replaced by Marcelo Torrealba. Berti also filled-in for Matías Garaculic by taking over the goal-kicking duties. He had a sound match with accurate goal-kicking and a personal haul of 23 points.

Before Berti scored his opening try, Os Cobras were already in trouble. Front-rower Henrique Ribeiro was yellow carded and Selknam were awarded a penalty try. Berti then scored tries on 8 and 12 minutes for Selknam.
Flanker Rodrigo Martínez also impressed for the Chilean side. He scored two tries with the first giving Selknam a bonus point inside the opening quarter. The performance had been so explosive that Selknam were 28-0 up at the 20 minute mark.
Os Cobras scored twice in the second-half while Selknam added three more tries. Os Cobras’ tries went to João do Amaral and South African Rosko Specman. The performance of Specman throughout the campaign is an indication of the need for more foreign players if Os Cobras are to up their game and be competitive.
Questions will also need to be addressed about the coaching staff. The decision to fire Uruguayan Emiliano Caffera and revert to Josh Reeves was not successful. In their third season with Reeves in charge, Os Cobras repeated 2023 and 2024 under Reeves by finishing last. The team registered one win in 2026.
